WASHINGTON -- The Connecticut Supreme Court ruled 4-3 today to overturn a ban on same-sex marriage, saying the law was unconstitutional. Connecticut will become the third state in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage, following Massachusetts and California.
Greg Varnum, acting executive director for NYAC, issued the following statement:
"This is truly a historic day for the people of Connecticut and for fair-minded people everywhere. As we prepare to celebrate National Coming Out Day tomorrow, this is the best possible gift to gay Americans who choose to lead their lives openly. In the days ahead, as marriage equality continues to spread across our country, NYAC will continue to address the other important issues facing LGBTQ youth in the years before they decide to marry. As for now, we celebrate this landmark achievement for our movement and we honor all of those who worked so work to make this day possible."
NYAC is a social justice organization that advocates for and with young people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning in an effort to end discrimination against these youth and to ensure their physical and emotional well being.
